Daughter's First Mini

This is my 3yo daughter's first mini to paint. She kept asking me to paint one when she would see me working on my stuff. So I pulled out a pewter troll I had lying around and set her up. I gave her the brown and green and let her choose the third color(so it's table legal right?) and of course she wants pink. LOL Notice the coordinated matching pink boots and "perse" as she called it.

LOTR High Elves

I've had these High Elves for LOTR sitting around for months, so I decided to get around to painting them. At some point they will make up a small Rivendel High Elf army. I still have 4 more swordmen to paint, and 8 bowmen.

Ravengaurd Speeder

Here is the first of two Typhoon speeders that are in this army. This was built from the new speeder kit, and it's much improved. Comes with all the plastic parts to make any of the main speeder varients, and the mold is a little different and A LOT cleaner. Fits together very well.

Squad 5 is the same setup as number 4, with CML and deployed infront of yet another venerable dreadnaught. Both dreads setup with Twinlinked Lascannons and Missle Launcher.

I put the thunder hammers in these units for pouding on tanks or big multiwound models.

Here is squad 4 with a CML. I have been deploying this unit on the table, in front of the venerable dread, as seen in the picture. It gets all my heavy weapons on the table from the get go, and the terminators give the venerable dread a cover save when deployed like this.

Here is squad 1 with Command upgrades and Belial attached. This squad usually comes down via DeathWing Assault in turn 1 and is the primary assault unit.

Here is the second dread for this army. They both have magnatized arms so I can swap out the weapons. So the first dread that I posted long ago is outfitted with a TLLC and ML just like this one here is. These are my heavy hittings going after tanks first.

Here is Belial with Lightning Claws. It's the same model as my earlier post of him, but since I magnatized his arms I can do all three weapons load outs. In this army he is attached to the command squad which is used as my primary assaulting unit to hit hard. So I gave him the claws for a little more umph out of the under powered character that he is.

Another squad of terminators here. This one is from the Battle of Black Reach box set, so I had no heavy weapons for it. I took the Typhoon missle pods from my Ravenwing Battle box and created one guy with CML mounted up. Turned out pretty if I don't mind saying so. :)

Here is yet another unit of the army, with the command upgrades added in. Standard bearer and Apothocary. The Apothocary was a major pain to do, as painting a pure white model totall SUCKS. I now know I will never want to paint a full army of white. I really suck at doing freehand stuff, but I gave it my best shot on the standard.

Here is my first droppod, completed for the Ravenguard army. This is probably the toughest model I have had to put together. It's very tricky to get it all to line up and fit together as it should. But it's bar far the coolest vehicle kit GW has put out, and a lot detail has gone into it's design. Only 2 more to go for this army. :)

Here is my dread, which is from the Battle of Black Reach box. I cut off the stormbolter and modded a heavy flamer on there. Since he will be in a drop pod it seemed more advantageous.

Here are the first 5 of my scouts, with sniper rifles and missle launcher. In the larger 1500 pt list I'll have one more of these units, and then a full 10 man unit of scouts with 50/50 shotguns and CCW/pistols. I have the first 5 of those basecoated, so expect them up soon.

Here is my Shrike model painted up. I realized I could probably add some text scribbles to the purity seals and ribbons. I'll get to it. :) Pretty nice model for being one of their older ones. I tried to follow the paint scheme I saw for him in the 4th Space Marine codex.

Ravengaurd Project

Here are my first models painted up for a new Ravenguard army I've started. Basic black, sticking with the standard color themes for the army. I'm working on getting some transfer sheets to add chapter iconagraphy to them.

This is the first tactical unit I painted from the Battle for Black Reach models.

Sammy on Jetbike

Here is my Sammaul on jetbike done up with my chapters colors. Kept his armor black as it just seemed to fit better. I added a carnifex head to front like a trophy. There was this big empty flat spot infront of the book, and it just needed something.

Dark Angels Predator

Here is the first of my predators painted up. I tried something different this this model, and got totally different results then expected but it still turned out cool. I didn't want to paint DA Green on this huge model, so I went looking for some green spray paint. I wanted to try stipling technique, so I tried to get spray that was a bit off from DA Green so I could stiple it on. After spraying it was much darker then I thought and glossy. After stipling the DA Green, you can hardly see it with the naked eye, and it didn't apply to well on the gloss. Hmm. I coated the model with a light matte varnish and then painted the rest of the stuff on it. They applied fine and I was starting to like the real subtle blotches of darker green on it. Almost a real light camo. In the pictures it's much more pronounced then with the eye, kind of strange, usually subtle things don't come out at all in pictures.

I've decided to do my other tank exactly the same way. I put this next to my dread that was painted with normal brush on DA Green and you can't see the difference in the greens.

Dreadnaught 1

After not painting anything for a few months I finally got back to it. I had a dread and another unit of termies built and unpainted. For something new and different, I decided to paint the dread, and surprised myself how quickly he came together.

I converted the plasmacannon, cutting off the assaultcannon from that arm, and attaching a metal plasmacannon bit meant to be for a marine. I think it turned out pretty good. The arms on this dread are totally magnatized to swap them out, and the torso is magnatized to the legs.

Ravenwing Squad

Here are the first bikes of my Ravenwing. So far I only have the models from one battleforce box, but I plan to get a few more of them. Going off of the standard DA colors of all black bike and riders, I decided to go with the dark grey for my primary color. Then of course the red for the trim, and red robes on the SGT. I also thought to give them a bit of the Dark Angels Green, helmet and shoulder pads, just to give them a touch of their original chapter.

Belial Terminator Master

Here is my version of Belial, for the chapter. I did a little conversion of a standard plastic terminator, making a cape from green stuff. Not the greatest job on the cape, but it was my first time trying to make something like that from GS. I added the icon on top from the DA Veteran sprues, and magnatized his arms so I can have all three weapon versions. I have the bits for the other arm sets, just need to paint them up.

DA Termi SGT

This is the SGT for the termi squad, the first one I painted for the squad. I gave him the cracked desert earth base. I plan to do that on models here and there through out the army.

DA Termi Squad

I finally finished my first squad for this army. An assault terminator squad. I rather like the color scheme I decided on, and like how the squad turned out. It really didn't take me very long, and even though it might not be my best work, I think for a squad for an entire army they look pretty nice. The highlights on the red armor didn't turn out to well in the pics, but they are there. :)

Angels of Solitude Background

Here is my bit of background I wrote for my Dark Angels successor chapter.

"The Angels of Solitude are a long forgotten successor chapter of the Dark Angels. Long ago, one of the older chapter masters of the Dark Angels, felt the need to go into seclusion and contemplate on the word of the Emperor, and the betrayal of his former brothers.
Two years passed where he did not leave his quarters, didn’t partake in combat, or training. He was brought some minimum supplies once in a while by a chaplain, who was also there to check on his spiritual well being. Occasionally the two would enter into deep conversation regarding the word of the Emperor, the Astartes, and the fate of the Fallen.
After two years, the chapter master immerged from his seclusion with a single request to the Inner Circle. He wished to take some devout brothers, an apothecary, and 2 chaplains, and start a chapter of the Dark Angels, devoted to the contemplation of their fates. This chapter would seclude itself from the rest of the Dark Angels, focus on meditation. The goals of these marines would be to take the spiritual brunt of the fight for the Dark Angels as a whole, and focus on how to cleanse it. They would take this focus and dedication and administer it, using the code of the Astartes and the means the marines are given to fight. The second chaplain is due to the fact that they will be so secluded from the rest of the Emperors finest, and the extra spiritual guidance will assure none are lead astray. No librarians are needed in the chapter itself, for their fates are known, and that would only make for possible taint from the contact with the Warp.
The Chapter, known as the Angels of Solitude, would keep the formations known by the other Dark Angels, and maintain a first Company of all Deathwing Terminators, and a second Company of all fast bikes and speeders. Each of these first two companies was lead by a Company Master trained in the respective form of combat. This is after all, the Astartes of the Dark Angels, and their first line in hunting down the Fallen. These two Companies, more then others, would dedicate themselves to the physical fight against the betrayers. Members of these Companies would know of the Fallen. The first company will be members of the Inner Circle, along with any officers in the chapter. Brothers that show dedication in their meditations, faithfulness, and combat prowess, shall be bestowed the knowledge of the betrayal. Any member in the chapter who has shown his faith and devotion to this extent shall be known to the other members by wearing the robes of office.
The new founded master of the Angels of Solitude found a distant system that only had a small outpost on the third planet. The planets were so close to the sun, that they were all so hot and devoid of life, that it was not practical to colonize. When the Angels of Solitude showed up, they informed the small detachment of Imperial Guard that they would take care of this system and the surrounding region. They were dispatched and sent back for redeployment. Although the third planet already had the small base on it, the marines decided to setup their home world on the second planet, for it was even hotter and more desolate, and would lend to their wishing to stay in quite contemplation with no distractions.
With their new home world of Delussian II, the newfound chapter could start their new life of solitude and contemplation. There they stayed, following their strange ways of meditating on the Emperor’s word, and the betrayal of their brothers. When called to duty, they were there, always and silently focused on the battle."

Grand Master of the Angels of Solitude

Here is my "Grand Master of the Angels of Solitude" or basically my version of Azrael for the Dark Angels. I'm going with a desert planet theme for this army. The fluff I have for them has them residing on a desolate desert planet. They are the only sentient beings on the planet they are on, which is why they are called the Angels of Solitude. I'm thinking of using names from the Dune story for my characters. This guys is named Selim.

DA Chaplain v2

So here is the promised pictures of the repainted chaplain with the red robes of my successor chapter. Basically where standard Dark Angels have white robes, my chapter has red.

My First Dark Angel Model

Here is the first model I painted for my new Dark Angels. I had always planned on doing a Dark Angels army at some point, because I really like their look and fluff. I converted this chaplain from one of the old metal veterans, before the new codex even came out. I drilled out the helmet from within the robe and suck a Fantasy Tomb Kings skull in there. :)

My Dark Angels are actually going to be a successor chapter, with my own color scheme, but this guy was made before I decided to do that. I have since painted his robes red, and I'll post that up later. His arms are magnatized with the thoughts of changing out his weapons with anything in the armory. Of course now in the new codex there is very little options for him. Oh well. At least now if I make a chaplain on bike model I can just use the same crozious weapon arm.

Hello, thanks for coming to my painting blog. I've been painting gaming miniatures for a few years now, and have gotten into the painting/modeling part of the hobby as much as the gaming part. It's lots of fun, and a bit of an artistic outlet. I have a few Warhammer 40k armies, both are mostly painted. :) I just started a new one and am enjoying painting the models for it. I'm trying to paint them nicely, but not going crazy about the details, and keeping it simple. I'll see how it goes I guess.
I'll post some pictures I have of my various models. Maybe some of my first, yuk, and more recent, and some I painted for competitions. I also post some of my stuff on Cool Mini or Not under squidwalker.
